Catching up!

It has been a while since we last posted anything fun about the family so I figure that it is about time to catch up. My last post was about Spring and now I think we can welcome Summer. The kids have a few more weeks of school, but the weather has warmed up and it has been nice to enjoy BBQ's and camping. That's right - we got our first camping trip in for this year. We went over Memorial weekend. It turned out to be a fun trip and we needed some time away from the house/base. We camped outside a town called Leavenworth (about 3 hours west of Spokane). It was beautiful!! We pitched our tents are gathered firewood all before the rain started.

It never really poured rain, but it did get old and we had a good few hours of it before we were going to even start going to bed. I think Tristen was the only one that played in the rain. The rest of the kids kept getting in the tents to stay dry while Hans kept the fire going and started cooking dinner. We did an easy dinner that night. We cooked hot dogs and baked beans in the dutch oven over the fire. Everything was wet so the kids wouldn't sit on the picnic bench to eat. The kids were disappointed that we weren't going to have S'mores that night since it was still raining on and off. That next day we had a beautiful day. We ate a quick breakfast and then got ready for the day. We headed down to the town to see what it was like. Leavenworth is a small tourist town that is built like a German village. It was really fun to walk around and see the designs of the buildings and walk through the different shops. There usually is a festival going on there all the time. That day we got to go look at an art show. I think the kids favorite part was when we stopped by the fudge shop. Who can resist yummy fudge?

After walking around the town for a while we headed over to a fish hatchery. It was really fun. We got to go inside and see how it all works. There was a tub full of small fish that they all got to look into. It was amazing to see how many fish go through there. After that we went outside and looked at some bigger fish (they had some huge ones).

After the fun in town we headed back up to the camp for lunch and yummy S'mores. The kids had so much fun with that. We did some small walks and took a short nap and enjoyed the day there. The kids had fun playing frisbee and catch. It was a great family time together. Sure they drove us nuts from time to time, but we had a lot of fun that weekend. I was glad to come back the next day and get everything cleaned up (and sleep in a bed).
