Spring Thaw 2008!

Every year Hans' squadron has a big summer kick off party. This year, in the middle of June, we finally made it out of spring!! This party is just a fun way for families and friends to come together and enjoy some good food (at amazing prices - $5 for a family!!!) and some good entertainment. It was held at Clear Lake - about 15 min from the base here. The military has a little "resort" there and it is a really fun place to hang out. The entertainment this year was a lot of fun. We had a live band, door prizes (we didn't win), pie in the face contest (see pictures below), boat races, and a lot of fun hanging out.

This is the only picture of me from the party. What a great one =)
Hans was in charge of the pie in the face contest. The squadron votes to see what top people will get a taste of pie. Now these are really good pies - In fact - no one wants to taste them. I got to make them while Hans auctioned them off. Here is Hans standing next to one of the victims telling him what he sees in the pie. Hans gave me whipped cream and cherries. My helper - Beth (our Phoenix Spouse) helped me get a little more creative.

Here is a picture of one. No two pies were the same. It was so much fun. They had anything and everything in and on them. This one had lettuce, onion, tomatoes, cherries, whipped cream, and under all that, baked beans, ketchup, and relish. There was one pie that had all of the above plus potato salad. Yuck!

It is amazing how much people are willing to pay to put a nasty pie in someones face. One sold for over $100. They ended up making over $600 for something so silly. It really is a lot of fun. I hope that no one remembers that I made the pies this year. I could be in some trouble

Here is a picture of Hans with Makayla and Tristen. They participated in the canoe race. No one cared that Hans had one extra person on his team. They didn't win, but had a really fun time. They even improved from last year.

This year the squadron started a new tradition. They did a cardboard boat race. Each team made their boat from any type of cardboard and duct tape. There was a whole lot of trash talking as each team unveiled their masterpiece. But one the race started it was easy to see who made the better boat. The Officers!! They won by a long shot. The 2nd place team was two kids that basically put to boxes together. Here are some pictures from the races.

Hans' team are the guys in front. There was one more boat that isn't in this picture. It had already started to sink. These are the second place kids. I was impressed that their boxes kept floating. They didn't use as much duct tape as everyone else.

What a great day!
